Human Belonging — Human belonging describes a person’s connection with the wider human community and recognition of shared needs and capacities. Shame threatens this connection when a survivor interprets victimization as evidence of being uniquely defective. Recognizing common experiences of trust, attachment, and vulnerability helps place the crime within human experience without excusing the perpetrator. — Social Experience
