Imagined relationship — An imagined relationship is the relationship the survivor believed existed on the basis of the criminal’s presentation. Its apparent identity, commitments, or future differed from the underlying deception. The survivor’s emotional investment remains real even when the relationship rested on false information. — Scam-Related Loss
