Intellectual Understanding — Intellectual understanding means recognizing and explaining relevant facts at the level of conscious knowledge. A survivor understands that the relationship involved fraud while continuing to experience attachment or longing. This distinction explains why factual recognition does not automatically end the feelings that developed during the deception. — Cognitive Process
