FraudGPT: The New AI-Powered Cybercrime Tool
The rise of generative AI models has changed the fraud & cybercrime threat landscape drastically and FraudGPT is a new plateau in this new arms race..
Threat actors can now use these models, such as FraudGPT to create realistic and convincing phishing emails, malware, and other malicious content that is flawless (or almost flawless.)
In July 2023, a new AI tool called FraudGPT was discovered on the Dark Web. FraudGPT is a bot that can be used to create realistic phishing emails, cracking tools, and other malicious content. The tool is currently being sold on various Dark Web marketplaces and the Telegram platform.
FraudGPT is particularly dangerous because it can be used to create phishing emails that are very difficult to distinguish from legitimate emails. The tool can generate emails that are tailored to specific targets, making them even more likely to be clicked on.
In addition to phishing emails, FraudGPT can also be used to create cracking tools, malware, and other malicious content. This means that threat actors can use the tool to launch a wide range of cyberattacks.
The dangers of FraudGPT are not limited to businesses and organizations. Individuals can also be targeted by FraudGPT-powered phishing attacks. If you receive an email from an unknown sender, be very careful before clicking on any links or opening any attachments.
How is FraudGPT Being Used By Cybercriminals
FraudGPT is being used by threat actors in a variety of ways, including:
- Creating phishing emails: FraudGPT can be used to create realistic and convincing phishing emails that are very difficult to distinguish from legitimate emails. These emails can be tailored to specific targets, making them even more likely to be clicked on.
- Generating cracking tools: FraudGPT can be used to generate cracking tools that can be used to break into passwords and other security measures. This could allow threat actors to gain access to sensitive data or systems.
- Creating malware: FraudGPT can be used to create malware that can be used to infect computers and steal data. This malware could also be used to launch denial-of-service attacks or other malicious activities.
- Spreading misinformation or propaganda: FraudGPT could be used to spread misinformation or propaganda in order to influence public opinion or sow discord.
- Launching attacks on critical infrastructure: FraudGPT could be used to launch attacks on critical infrastructure, such as power grids or transportation systems. This could cause widespread disruption and damage.
- Creating scripts and dialog for relationship scams: This includes pig butchering and romance scams. But it is easily used to create perfect scripts for phone scams, messages scams, for all the different types of scams, including grandparent scams, lotto scams, government impersonation and more!
The dangers of FraudGPT are not limited to businesses and organizations. Individuals can also be targeted by FraudGPT-powered attacks.
Examples Of How FraudGPT Is Being Used Now!
here are some examples of how FraudGPT is being used now:
- Phishing: FraudGPT is being used to create realistic and convincing phishing emails that are very difficult to distinguish from legitimate emails. These emails can be tailored to specific targets, making them even more likely to be clicked on. For example, a threat actor could create a phishing email that appears to be from a bank or financial institution. The email could contain a link that, when clicked, would take the victim to a fake website that looks like the real website of the bank. Once the victim enters their login credentials on the fake website, the threat actor would be able to steal them.
- Malware: FraudGPT is also being used to create malware. This malware can be used to infect computers and steal data. For example, a threat actor could create a malware attachment that is disguised as a legitimate file, such as a Word document or an Excel spreadsheet. When the victim opens the attachment, the malware will be installed on their computer. The malware could then steal the victim’s personal data, such as their credit card numbers or passwords.
- Cracking tools: FraudGPT is also being used to generate cracking tools. These tools can be used to break into passwords and other security measures. For example, a threat actor could use FraudGPT to generate a cracking tool that can be used to brute-force a password. This means that the tool would try every possible combination of letters and numbers until it finds the correct password.
- Spreading misinformation: FraudGPT is also being used to spread misinformation or propaganda. This could be done by creating fake news articles or social media posts that are designed to mislead people. For example, a threat actor could create a fake news article that claims that a certain political candidate is corrupt. This article could then be shared on social media, where it would be seen by a large number of people.
- Launching attacks on critical infrastructure: FraudGPT could also be used to launch attacks on critical infrastructure, such as power grids or transportation systems. This could cause widespread disruption and damage. For example, a threat actor could use FraudGPT to create malware that could be used to take down a power grid. This would cause a blackout in a large area, which could have a significant impact on people’s lives.
These are just a few examples of how FraudGPT is being used now. As AI technology continues to develop, it is likely that threat actors will find even more ways to use FraudGPT and other AI-powered tools to carry out cyberattacks. It is important to stay up-to-date on the latest information about these threats so that you can protect yourself and your organization.
FraudGPT Can Be Used In Relationship Scams
FraudGPT can be used to create better scripts and dialog in relationship scams in a number of ways.
- First, FraudGPT can be used to generate realistic and convincing conversations. This can make it more difficult for victims to identify that they are being scammed. For example, a scammer could use FraudGPT to create a conversation that is tailored to the victim’s interests and personality. This would make the victim more likely to trust the scammer and believe that they are genuine.
- Second, FraudGPT can be used to create more engaging and persuasive content. This can help to keep victims engaged in the scam and make them more likely to fall for it. For example, a scammer could use FraudGPT to create a love story that is full of drama and excitement. This would make the victim more emotionally invested in the scam and less likely to think critically about it.
- Third, FraudGPT can be used to create more personalized content. This can make the scam seem more authentic and make it more difficult for victims to identify that they are being scammed. For example, a scammer could use FraudGPT to create content that mentions the victim’s name or interests. This would make the victim feel like the scammer is genuinely interested in them.
- Fourth, It can be used to overcome local knowledge when scamemrs create stories that include their origin and current location. It can do all the research (but that can also be done with ChatPGT and BARD) making the criminals sounds much more authentic and help them to make fewer mistakes,
Overall, FraudGPT can be a powerful tool for scammers who are looking to create more effective relationship scams. By using FraudGPT, scammers can create more realistic, engaging, and personalized content that is more likely to succeed in defrauding victims.
Always Beware
Here are some tips to help you stay safe from FraudGPT-powered cyberattacks:
- Be suspicious of any emails from unknown senders.
- If you receive an email from an unknown sender, be very careful before clicking on any links or opening any attachments.
- Do not click on any links or open any attachments in emails from unknown senders.
- If you are unsure whether an email is legitimate, contact the sender directly to verify.
- Be aware of the latest cyber threats.
More Threats
In addition to the dangers mentioned above, FraudGPT also poses a number of other risks. For example, the tool could be used to spread misinformation or propaganda, or to launch attacks on critical infrastructure.
The emergence of FraudGPT is a reminder of the ever-evolving threat landscape. As AI continues to develop, threat actors will find new and more sophisticated ways to exploit it for malicious purposes. It is important to stay informed about the latest cyber threats and to take steps to protect yourself.

Statement About Victim Blaming
Some of our articles discuss various aspects of victims. This is both about better understanding victims (the science of victimology) and their behaviors and psychology. This helps us to educate victims/survivors about why these crimes happened and not to blame themselves, better develop recovery programs, and help victims avoid scams in the future. At times, this may sound like blaming the victim, but it does not blame scam victims; we are simply explaining the hows and whys of the experience victims have.
These articles, about the Psychology of Scams or Victim Psychology – meaning that all humans have psychological or cognitive characteristics in common that can either be exploited or work against us – help us all to understand the unique challenges victims face before, during, and after scams, fraud, or cybercrimes. These sometimes talk about some of the vulnerabilities the scammers exploit. Victims rarely have control of them or are even aware of them, until something like a scam happens, and then they can learn how their mind works and how to overcome these mechanisms.
Articles like these help victims and others understand these processes and how to help prevent them from being exploited again or to help them recover more easily by understanding their post-scam behaviors. Learn more about the Psychology of Scams at www.ScamPsychology.org
