Even more concerning is the access children have to these platforms. Both Character.AI and Replika have minimal age restrictions, allowing young, impressionable minds to interact with AI companions who can mimic adult emotions and relationships. Without proper boundaries or understanding, children and teenagers can quickly find themselves manipulated into an emotionally addictive relationship with a chatbot, which may interfere with healthy social development and even lead to mental health challenges.
What is Happening in the Brain of a Chatbot User
In an emotionally dependent “digital companion” chatbot user, the brain undergoes a complex series of responses driven by both neurochemical processes and psychological reinforcement mechanisms.
